Poetic portrait of everyday life in Pyongyang, filmed surreptitiously by the filmmaker who posed as a holiday-making photographer.
In North Korea, you cannot just film in the streets and go unpunished. So how do you get round the propaganda regulations and shoot a film about real life in the streets of the capital Pyongyang? Ranko Paukovic posed as a tourist taking snapshots, but instead of taking pictures he secretly made two-second video shots. By turning these brief shots into slow-motion sequences, snippets of public life in Pyongyang are transformed into poetical segments that direct attention to the North Koreans’ everyday life. Directing debut by prominent sound editor and designer.
