Black-and-white animation film adapted from Maria Jacobs’ book 55 Sokken/A safe house: Holland 1940-1945 about a mother and daughter who offer two Jewish women a safe house in World War II. To kill the time, they pick out a bedspread and knit 55 socks. The mother tries in vain to sell the socks, until a farmer’s wife buys all 55 of them. After all, she loves to knit.
