The seventh commandment reads 'Thou shalt not commit adultery', but what is adultery? In director Fatima Jebli Ouazzani's view, the answer to this question is not unequivocal. In any case, not monogamy, but trust is sacred.
For example, after 22 years of marriage, a man suggests to his wife to look for sexual satisfaction elsewhere. Subsequently, the apparently unjealous husband is proud of her conquests. She, on the other hand, is extremely jealous - mainly caused by a traumatic childhood memory of her adulterous mother.
Ouazzani contrasts this to the story of an Israeli soldier whose wife became pregnant by his army superior, who had dispatched him to Lebanon. On returning, the private finds out that the abortion was paid from his pay. Now, he is leading the life of a gigolo - but, he emphasises, he has never in his life had an affair.
