Gerard Tholen (1943-1996) was rejected for drama school and in 1970 joined the experimental theatre group Werkteater. In 1980 he changed over to film. Four years later, he won a Golden Calf for Best Actor for his parts in
De mannetjesmaker and
De illusionist.
