Penny's Shadow
Seventeen-year-old Lisa spends the summer holiday with her mother, her ever cheerful sister Tess and Tess’ self-willed Shetlander Rakker on Ameland. Lisa does not feel like it. But once they have arrived at the farmyard campsite, the somewhat surly teenager finds a remarkable distraction: Shadow. This unmanageable black stallion is locked up in the farm stables. After a traumatic accident, the beautiful animal became unpredictable. Lisa feels Shadow is deeply distressed. Kai, the farm owner’s handsome son, gets furious when he finds out Lisa meddles with the animal. And he remains angry, even when the girl slowly but surely develops rapport with Shadow. Why is he so angry with the poor steed? Family film, inspired by the adventures of brave girls and their horses in the Dutch comic magazine Penny. Besides the audacious horse-riding scenes, the film, like the comic strips, also leaves room for friendship, family, personal victories and…. love. Nostalgia for many a (elderly) pony girl.
