El sonido del bandoneón (The Sound of the Bandoneón)
Musical road movie about the instrument most commonly associated with passion: the bandoneón. Like the tango, a dramatic and melancholy story underlies this Argentinean concertina. In the late nineteenth century, German immigrants brought the instrument along to Argentina, where it managed to secure a firm position in tango and folk music. But old instruments wear away and new bandoneóns are manufactured only sparsely. Now that tourists take them out of Argentina as souvenirs, the instrument has become an endangered species. Néstor Marconi, a famous bandoneón player from Argentina, is followed during rehearsals and concerts in Buenos Aires, as is Daniel Vedia, who teaches poor students in northern Argentina. The film shows the struggle to keep the instrument alive.
