Conducting Mahler

In 1995 a major Mahler Festival was organised in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. For seventeen days, the complete oeuvre of Gustav was performed. Internationally renowned conductors, such as Bernard Haitink, Riccardo Chailly, Claudio Abbado, Ricardo Mutti and Simon Rattle came to Amsterdam to provide their vision on the diverse works of this Austrian composer. In his documentary Frank Scheffer talks to them about their fascination with the work of Mahler. He also shows them rehearsing with their orchestras and how the different performances differ, but above all the similarities between their interpretations.
