Charlotte

Depiction of the life of the Jewish artist Charlotte Salomon during World War II. She grew up in Berlin as a surgeon’s daughter. After her father had been apprehended, growing anti-Semitism prompted her to flee to her grandparents in the south of France in 1939. Apart from caring for her grandparents, she captured her life story in the form of gouaches and drawings to give her life meaning. Salomon was taken in and deported in 1943. She died in Auschwitz.
