Beck - De gesloten kamer

 (Beck)
Dutch/Belgian co-production, after the book The Closed Room by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö, in which detective Martin Beck plays a leading role. The location has been moved to the harbour district of Antwerp. After a lengthy recovery from a gunshot wound, Beck resumes his activities at the head of the Antwerp murder squad. He is given a case that doesn't interest anyone: a body of an old man has been found in a room locked on the inside. Beck does not believe the generally-accepted theory of suicide. In solving the case, he comes into conflict with his ambitious colleague Fisher. In the end he is helped by Monita, a young divorced mother who tries to keep financially afloat with dubious wheeler-dealing. Els Dottermans was awarded a Golden Calf for her role.
