Arabische verkenningen - Democratie voor mijn kinderen

(Arabian Agenda - Democracy for my Children)
Part one of the documentary trilogy Arabian Agenda about women in the Arab world. The Western picture of the Arab world tends to be dominated by two extremes. There is the mysterious picture from the tales of 1001 Nights. On the other hand there is the persistent notion of the veiled woman oppressed by her fundamentalist husband. In Arabian Agenda Harmke Pijpers talks to three Islamic women who do not fit in with this stereotype. The first part of the series, entitled Democracy for my Children looks at the bitter political battle of the first and only woman in the Jordanian parliament.
